how allied health professionals are indispensable in healthcare

allied health professionals make a significant contribution to the healthcare sector. like similar health fields, workers are tasked with supporting people at their most vulnerable times.

for this reason, these professionals are respected for the work they do. a career in the field extends to many roles, including an assistant in areas such as patient care, therapy, physiotherapy and nutrition.

so, we know that allied health workers are significant, but how vital are they to improving individual and community health?

they always work with passion

patient support starts, and ends, with care. if you care about what you’re doing and who you’re helping, then the results will always match.

“it’s about the passion,” says allied health assistance (aha) course coordinator peter prskalo. “you do it for the passion and for the love of helping others. unashamedly, unequivocally. it’s one of those things where the rewards are phenomenal.”

they perform roles that are in-demand in society

people are living longer than ever before. therefore, we will continue to see an increase for skilled health workers.

also, there are greater opportunities in regional areas, as demand grows.  according to jobs site seek, the share of new job ads in healthcare in areas outside of capital cities has risen from 25 per cent to 32 per cent, demonstrating a significant shift from metro to regional areas.

and overall, jobs in the healthcare and medical sector have risen by more than 20 per cent in the past few years.

they help improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals

there is a bigger picture to an allied health professionals work. each day the work they do has a direct result on society.

“it’s a very compassionate industry. our job is to implement. that is where we get our satisfaction because we get the community process happening and the relationship. to see someone to be able to talk, communicate, do something they couldn’t do a day ago or an hour ago, that carries you through the rest,” peter explains.

the sector is always improving to meet health needs

change is inevitable and always essential. allied health is innovative, always striving to improve processes and abilities to help individuals.

“we go on clinical placement, we ask the clinicians where are there gaps and what are they missing these days.  every one or two years, we have a committee of these professionals come in and speak to us about what they see [is happening in the industry], what is coming up and what they think would be required from the student,” peter says.
